Safety Recall # 757 -- Spare Tire

Models:
1996 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) Vehicles Equipped With a Quadra-Trac 4WD Transfer Case (Sales Code - DHR) and a Compact Spare Tire

Installing the compact spare tire in either a front or rear position on about 65,000 of the above listed vehicles, may cause front axle damage and/or a vehicle fire. To correct this condition, the compact spare tire must be replaced with a full size (conventional) spare tire and wheel assembly. The new spare tire and wheel assembly will NOT match the other tires and wheels on the vehicle and is still intended for use only as a spare tire.

IMPORTANT : Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service as determined by using DIAL System Function 70.
